AB 1856 was recently approved to assure that all youth in out of home care receive fair, and responsible services from their care provider.  

Transgender and gender non-conforming youth often face serious physical, emotional, and sexual abuse while in out of home care, therefore this legislation was created specifically  to meet the special needs of the LGBT Youth in out of home care. 

The new legislation requires all care providers in all out of home facilities for youth to receive cultural awareness training.    

Our program, approved by Community Care Licensing, will help caregivers understand the experiences and concerns of our LGBT youth population.   It explains how staff members can respond to the youths’ safety, health care, and program needs in an informed and effective manner that meets legal obligation, and support quality of life issues for at risk youth.
